2010: A Great Year!

It has been an amazing year for the JUNK-2-GO? family full of many highs and challenges, all which we have helped us learn and grow.

The two main highlights of the year for JUNK-2-GO? have to been setting up our depot, and secondly expanding our company into the Christchurch area. This move has been well received and is going strong. Many thanks to our Christchurch customers for the warm welcome!

My personal highlight of the year has been watching our beautiful twin boys (now aged 20 months) grow into two funny, happy and healthy wee men – and having them say “hi daddy” when I return home from work.

We hope you get to enjoy some quality “R and R” time over the festive period and would like to thank you heaps for supporting our family owned rubbish removal service in 2010. We really appreciate your business and look forward to being of service to you in 2011.

Spring is Sprung!

With Spring here and daylight saving just passed, there is no better time than now to get your Spring cleaning under way! Or get cracking with those garden and outside projects.

Home-grown veggie patches are in and many people have taken to home-grown produce – we recently added two more raised garden beds to our two, and look foward to some great home grown herbs and lettuce.  You can of course make the beds yourself from old timber or from renovation junk. You’ll be surprised at what you can come up with – a little tip if you are using treated timber: line the inside of the wood with plastic! Other tips : use old tyres to grow potatoes in, and old Auckland recycling buckets (the blue ones) for growing veg and herbs.  You can paint them or just use them as they are – they work a treat! When growing celery, you can use old plastic bottles to keep the celery growing upwards!

A few tips on dealing with and getting rid of that extra rubbish and junk you may generate this weekend:

How to get rid of your rubbish?

There are many choices: you could pop along to your nearest DIY shop and buy a flexi bin, rush back home and then load your rubbish into the flexi bin and call up the company to collect it, OR call one of the many Auckland rubbish and skip bin hire companies including mini skips Auckland to provide you with a skip bin. Don’t forget you will need a good idea of the amount of rubbish you may generate in order to choose the size of the bin you pre-order. These range from a 2 cubic metre bin, 3-4 cube metre, and up to a 9 cube meter skip bin. There also bigger bins for that huge rubbish removal job. Keep in mind that when you hire a skip bin you will need to allow yourself enough time to load. Sometimes this may take a few hours or days.

How do you spend your Saturday?

Today Auckland is stunning, sun shining, no wind and a warm temperature as we head into winter. As I drive to work I pass heaps of people out walking, cycling and running, hundreds of children and parents are at the sports fields watching games of soccer! It’s a great sight.

As for work, our trucks are just about fully booked, we have rubbish and junk removal jobs booked in all areas of Auckland. A lot of jobs booked on a Saturday are for people moving house, some are moving out of rental properties and others have sold their houses. People are using our Auckland rubbish removal service so that they can enjoy the sun and not spend their Saturday loading a skip bin or rubbish bin or even rushing down to the service station, hiring a trailer, driving home then loading their rubbish into the hired trailer and driving to the Auckland transfer station (sometimes known as a rubbish dump!) Quite often people can’t even find the transfer station! They are well hidden, trust me. When I arrived in Auckland years ago I couldn’t find them!

It reads: “After working in hospitality for many years (including on the QE2!) Dave Lewis decided to start his entrepreneurial journey. He wanted to start a café, but the bank wouldn’t play ball, so instead he started a lawn mowing company called Maxwell’s.
After being asked many times if he could remove some rubbish for people, Dave sold the mowing company and 0800-JUNK-2-GO was born! Dave’s ex mother-in-law said it wouldn’t work and he would get bored within a week. Now Dave and 0800-JUNK-2-GO are heading into their 5th year, and over 15,000 collections later we are still here and loving what we do!

Our story so far

It’s been a great journey so far, and we have some exciting plans and goals in the pipeline. So next time you need to get rid of some rubbish or junk call us – we load it, clean up and take away rubbish from homes and businesses. We recycle whenever possible and regularly donate items to charities.”
